I had to unlearn
What I had learned
What I was taught
By this world
At home, at school
Believing those things
I was a fool.
The Bible, your Word
That we err
What we are and were
Whom I serve
What I deserve
And what I earn
For the wages of sin is death, Romans 6:23
I cannot bear this shame
I cannot make things right
Have mercy on me, sinner...
I don't want to go against you again.
Against you, mighty God of life
Who will repay everyone according to their work.
No evil can stand before you.
And you know, what is still in my heart,
Please, make it right.
I can't, I can't, I can't...
Lord, have mercy, have mercy, have mercy...
Do, what you want with me,
But I am grateful to you
That you showed me my sin and your glorious Word, my Lord.
Thank you for the fear of God,
Which came upon me...
So I came to senses and was able to beg you for the mercy.
That was the greatest day of my life.
Let me glorify you at least with my lips.
I am not worthy to serve you,
Not even to say your name,
So great is my sin and shame.
If grace could ever be deserved
Everyone would deserve it more than I
But still many will die
Without you, in sin.
There are still some people
I am sure
Who would come to you
If only they would hear about you
They would embrace your Word, the cure.
You can use even evil for good,
so use me, if you want,
To tell at least some about you.
And if you don't?
Then take away my life
Because I don't want to go against you anymore, please.
You came into this world
You suffered, being threatened, being mocked,
Receiving many stripes,
Was crucified, died...
For us, sinners,
Who are through your death justified,
Made with just God alright.
And then God, the Father
Showed his might
Showed his delight
Gave his confirmation
By raising you from the dead the third day.
The church was born, a new nation,
Nation of priests
To serve you with all their lives,
Who do your will and your work:
All things whatsoever we would that men should do to us
We do even so to them.
Amen, amen, amen.
But faith in you is almost lost...
The world is almost destroyed by sin.
Things, we are doing, are evil, mean.
And yet we think we walk in truth, in love,
On paths of life, being one with you.
The world is full of lying wonders and signs
Of toxic science without any con-science
Of deceiving spirits, the devils,
Showing themselves as angels of the Light,
As saviours, messengers of you, your Word, Christ.
And even though everything you had told before
And it is written in the Bible
The world rather believes lies than your glorious Word.
I do not know
What is your plan with me.
But I do know,
I am not the only one, who loves you so, it cannot be!
How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost but now I am found
Was blind but now I see.
Let there be still some people, sheep
Who will cherish your Grace
More than anything else:
More than spiritual ecstasy, power, being someone, being proud, being ace.
Call them, lead them, preserve them, save them. Amen.
My Shepherd, my Lord, my hope,
my life, my joy, my Saviour, Jesus Christ,
the Son of God, the Word of God, equal with God, being God
and who humbled himself and became a true man, died and was raised from the dead and is again with you.
In his name do I pray, do we pray:
Hear us, our Father:
Hallowed be thy name.
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
