Psalm 38

My thoughts about Psalm 38...

Psalm 38 is a Psalm, written by David. And once again - it describes not only David but Jesus Christ and Christians too. I will not write about each and every verse here. Many verses have the same message as verses in Psalm 39 have - so check that commentary if you want or need to.

verse 4: "For mine iniquities are gone over mine head..."
Mat 27:29 "And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!"
Person or desire or... who or whatever is above our head has some power over us. That's why people bow down in front of certain people, statues of gods (idols)...
And what about thorns? What do thorns represent?
Gen 3:18 "Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;"
Thorns were one of the consequences of Adam's and Eve's rejection of the Lord so in that sense they represent sin, iniquities, consequences of sin.

verse 4: " an heavy burden they are too heavy for me."
Even Cain, murderer of his own brother, said something similar:
"Gen 4:13 And Cain said unto the LORD, My punishment is greater than I can bear."
But "good" people of today? If they have still some consciousness, their consciousness is torturing them... and many of them don't turn to the Lord, but are suffering till the end - and this is so, so sad... and others? They are screaming: No regret, don't judge me, I am fine the way I am... and I or we will decide with how much sin we can live with... This was a message of a HBO commercial campaign in Slovenia in December 2014 (see picture) and people went along with it and accepted the idea.

In one sense, they are right - God gave them (us) free will and freedom about that - they (we) can decide how much do they (we) want to lie themselves, they have free hands regarding how much do they want to dumb their consciousness and how much do they want to silence the Word of God - but at the end, they make themselves dumb - what they are doing is not wise.

It is God, who had set the criteria with how much sin we can live with - if we want to live - and he set it at 0 sin (zero sin)... That is the standard of holy, holy, holy God - the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost.

verse 7: "For my loins are filled with a loathsome disease: and there is no soundness in my flesh."
Sometimes Christian get sick - and this is a special mercy of God, his chastisement. When you are in pain - you just cannot sin - well in many cases you cannot.
Suffering of the flesh is not always bad - at least not for Christians - it can be also good.
Job suffered and after that he was even more blessed and we read also in the New testament something similar:
1Co 5:5 "To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus."

Paul tells us his personal experience - he might not speak about diseases - but nevertheless, he definitely speaks about problems regarding flesh:
2Co 12:7-10: "And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.
For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.
And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong."

That is the way :)
And Jesus himself said: I am the way... and he took his cross...

verse 11: "My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my sore; and my kinsmen stand afar off."
Read about how they took their hands on Jesus... and how he was crucified. He was alone...

Kinsmen - family, friends... Today there are practically no more families at least not in the Biblical sense of the word. Husband and wife don't see each other in majority of so called families for more than 8 hour a day, they sleep 5-8 hours. And their children were by deceit and force taken away from them... It is so, so sad... practically no one sees that... Family members work together, help each other, spent almost all time together, learn together, breathe together, smile together, eat together... You love them! That is family... compare this definition with your own one... And I guess people of today cannot realize how painful it is, when and if such people stand afar off, when you are in need... They spent all their life alone... and that is painful if they realize that or not... but pain, when your loved ones turn away from you is much, much greater. And so David, as Jesus too, did experience such pain and many Christians did it too.
Mat 10:36-39: "And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.
He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.
He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it."

verse 16: "For I said, Hear me, lest otherwise they should rejoice over me: when my foot slippeth, they magnify themselves against me."
Did Jesus fell with cross or not? Since I was raised as Catholic, I have thought, he did - but Bible doesn't say that. He might fell or he might not. And whatever is not written in the Bible - it is not important for our salvation, because in the Bible there is everything one needs to know (and even more) to be saved.

verse 18: "For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin."
To repent... People of today prefer to sing along with Madonna: No regret.

verse 19: "...and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied."
John 15:25: "But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause."
Phrases "to hate someone without a cause" and "to hate someone wrongfully" have very similar if not even the same meaning.
Psalm 69:4: "They that hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of mine head: they that would destroy me, being mine enemies wrongfully, are mighty: then I restored that which I took not away."
verse 19: " But mine enemies are lively, and they are strong:..." is telling us the same message as Psalm 69:4 does.

So that's all in short.
God bless you.
